A Study on ONU/OLT Structures in Single-star-type New Generation Optical Access Architecture using WDM-direct

(in English) In this paper, we study structures of ONU and OLT for single-star-type new generation optical access architecture using WDM-direct. We propose two types of ONU structures. In the first type, the OLT equips laser-diodes and supplies each ONU with unmodulated optical signals. Each ONU transmits upstream data by modulating the optical signals sourced from the OLT and sending the modulated pulses back to the OLT. In the second type, each ONU equips a laser-diode, and performs upstream data transmissions by sending the modulated optical pulses to the OLT. We evaluate the optical power loss characteristics and the number of available wavelengths, and clarify the advantages and disadvantages of the two ONU structures. In addition, we propose an OLT structure, and also consider a network control mechanism to communicate between the OLT and ONUs.
