A VCO with dual tapped line resonator is presented for a low phase noise VCO. The active circuit and tuned circuit are connected to the line resonator.
We derive the analytic formula of the resonator and shows that the external Q and resonant frequency of the resonator can be determined by the tapped positions independently.
The fabricated VCO of 12 GHz shows that the phase noise is determined by the connecting position of the line resonator and the active circuit, and the frequency bandwidth is determined by the connecting position of the line resonator and the tuned circuit independently.
And the VCO achieved the phase noise of from -117.6 to -114.4 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset from the carrier, covering the oscillation bandwidth of 234MHz or 1.95%. |
