A Study on Amplify-and-Forward Cooperative Transmission Systems Using Noise Power Estimation

(in English) This paper proposes a maximum ratio combining (MRC) scheme with noise power estimation for frame-based Amplify-and-Forward (AF) cooperative transmission based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). In a two-slot AF cooperative transmission system, the destination node combines the directly received frame and the relayed frame based on MRC to obtain diversity gain. The noise sources of the frames are mutually different in the AF cooperative network; therefore, noise power estimation of individual noise sources is needed to derive the MRC weight for each frame. However, there have been few papers to estimate the expectation of each noise power. We propose to estimate the expectation of noise power in each frame from known preambles on frame-by-frame basis. In addition, our proposal inserts additional preambles into the relayed frame at the relay node to estimate the averaged noise power of the relayed signal with ease.
