Ambiguity in Exact Unconditional ML Criterion for DOA Estimation
Haihua Chen, Masakiyo Suzuki (Kitami Inst. of Tech.) EA2008-6 SIP2008-15
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper addresses the issue of ambiguity of the solution in Unconditional Maximum Likelihood (UML) estimation
of Directions-of-Arrival (DOA). At first, we show the brief description of the definition of the exact UML estimation.
By relaxing the condition to be satisfied by unknown parameters, the solution of the UML estimation can be formulated.
We show that it corresponds to the extension of the solution space for the exact UML estimation.
We call it extended UML estimation.
Next, we show the followings by simulations. (1) The solution of the extended UML estimation is ambiguous.
(2) The solution of exact UML estimation is unique when the observation condition is relatively good,
but looses its uniqueness in the threshold region or bad observation condition.
