Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A hybrid method, which have proposed as a speech processor for the cochlear implant, is a mixture type of a general-purpose SPEAK (spectral peak) method and a FPEAK (formant peak) method by the formant encoding. However, the hybrid method had a problem of perceiving discontinuities where voiced/unvoiced (V/U) sound was changed or a problem of mistaking some V/U decisions. Then, in order to improve those problems, we proposed a new type of W-SPEAK (weighted-SPEAK) method, and confirmed the effectiveness of it by auditory evaluations of a speech intelligibility. In addition, we introduce a CI-simulator (cochlear implant simulator) developed to investigate and evaluate the performance of speech encoding.
