Impulse Noise Reduction of Digital Image by Using Minimum Spanning Tree

(in English) A switching median filter is effective in elimination of impulse noises while preserving image edges. In the filter, an impulse detector is employed before filtering and the detection results are used to control whether a pixel should be filtered or not. However, the conventional detector tends to misjudge noise-free pixels constructing line structures to be the noises. In this report, a new impulse detector, which is based on the minimum spanning tree and is effective for the image including line structures, is proposed and is applied to the random impulse noise elimination. Through the experiments, the effectiveness of the proposed detector is illustrated.
