IMS/MMD is a key technology for NGN, which integrates the fixed network and the mobile network. IMS/MMD adopts a basic architecture, in which QoS/policy of the traffic is controlled by PCRF. However, it is entrusted to the operational policy of the network provider about a method of traffic control and cooperation with the transport stratum. This study aims at offering multiple traffic classes on the core network by enhancing the procedures in IMS/MMD and harmonizing Diffserv with MPLS traffic engineering mechanisms. Based on this study, we further propose an effective traffic engineering method to prioritize emergency calls at the time of congestion and to improve the accommodation of the normal class traffic by utilizing the detour paths. |
