| (in English) | Detection of differentially expressed (DE) genes between different conditions of sample cells is a basic and fundamental task in gene expression data analyses. Various statistics have been proposed for this task because detection power of hypothesis testing depends on the selection of statistic. Recently, Storey (2007) proposed the optimal discovery procedure (ODP) which provides a systematic process to obtain the most powerful statistic for multiple simultaneous hypothesis testings. Since the original implementation was based on estimation of the ODP, however, large space is left to seek for a better estimation of the ODP from empirical data. We, in this report, propose an improved estimation of the ODP statistic. We applied it to detection tasks of DE genes and cancer outlier genes, and found that our proposed method achieved the better power than the others including statistics which had been designed specially for cancer outlier genes detection problems. |
