Spatial sound reproduction technology is applied to various fields such as a home theater, a portable audio, and a cellular phone. To achieve spatial sound reproduction, a head-related transfer function (HRTF) is commonly used. HRTF depends on the sound source direction and the size and shape of the head and the pinna. The sound localization can be performed by using the interaural phase difference and the spectral characteristics and so on. Many researchers have been dealt with the HRTFs measured at away from listener, however, HRTF measurements near a head were conducted and analyzed insufficiently. To measure HRTFs near the head within 1 m, a small sound equipment is needed. In this study, a small equipment for HRTF measurement is improved by using micro dynamic-type loudspeakers and evaluated its characteristics such as directionality and sound attenuation. In the experiments, two kinds of origin were used. One of them was the center of both ears; the other was the entrance of the right ear canal. The HRTF measurements were conducted with developed small equipment in two origins. The incidences of pinna were investigated by comparison of the frequency characteristics. As a result, the sound waves at low frequency were emphasized as the sound source was close to the head. Moreover, in the case of measuring HRTFs when the center of both ears was origin, the sound source distance dependency was strong. It was shown that the sound source distance dependency could be reduced by using coordinates that the origin was the entrance of ear canal, and it contributes to interpolate HRTFs near the head. |
