A Hybrid Network Architecture of Optical Waveband and Packet Switching Networks

(in English) Next generation optical networks must be able to provide both guaranteed and best-effort services for various types of application. However, conventional hierarchical networks consist of separated OCS and OPS networks and do not utilize resources adequately taking account of an architecture of the whole hierarchical network including waveband. In this paper, we propose a hybrid network architecture of WBS and OPS networks. The WBS network offers fragmental or surplus wavelengths to the OPS network after grouping its waveband. This optical path is used as a bypass in the OPS network. The architecture can improve a loss probability and throughput of the best-effort traffic. The effectiveness of the proposed architecture is confirmed through simulations.
