Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) NHK is studying the advanced satellite broadcasting system which aims to increase transmission capacity more than that of the present satellite broadcasting system (ISDB-S). In this advanced system, we expect to increase transmission capacity by approximately 30% by adopting LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) codes and reduced roll-off factor. We are also considering 16APSK and 32APSK in addition to the present PSK modulation schemes. In these modulation schemes, modulated symbols are mapped on concentric circles which have the different radii. In this advanced system, we reported that transmission efficiency could be increased by selecting the optimum radii of 16APSK and 32APSK for each coding rate. On the other hand, TWTA (Traveling Wave Tube Amplifier) is needed to work in the quasi-linear operating region when using APSK because of non-linear amplification in satellite transmissions. In this paper, we report the study on Optimum OBO (Output-Back-Off) of 16APSK and 32APSK for each coding rate by indoor transmission experiments with respect to the most efficient use of the limited transmission power of a satellite.
