Waveguide quasi-phase-matching sum-frequency generation devices for single photon detection in communication band

(in English) High quantum efficiency single photon detector for communication wavelength band is required for applications including quantum information communications. A detection method utilizing a photon wavelength converter and a Si avalanche photodiode is promising. In this work, we studied waveguide quasi-phase-matching sum-frequency generation (QPM-SFG) devices for the photon wavelength converter. Based on the coupled-mode analysis, we studied the theoretical device performances and designed the devices. A prototype QPM-SFG device for pumping by an InGaAs semiconductor laser was fabricated and characterized, and photon wavelength conversion was demonstrated. For improvement of the quantum efficiency, a QPM-SFG device with a waveguide buried in the crystal was fabricated. A quantum efficiency of 30% was obtained.
