A parametric loudspeaker using the self-demodulation effect of a finite-amplitude ultrasound that is amplitude-
modulated by audio signals is promisingly applicable to a highly directive audio system. This loudspeaker
has been technically developed and advanced for practical use so far. However, several problems remain still unclear.
Especially, the improvements of insufficient sound quality and low conversion efficiency from electric to sound power
are need primarily for further applications of the parametric loudspeaker. To overcome the former problem, we
propose the dynamic carrier modulation that is based on the Weaver single side-band method. Using a prototyped
Weaver modulator, we discuss theoretically and experimentally the field characteristics of secondary waves such as
the difference frequency tone from the perspective of signal distortion and linearity. |
