The optical intensity profiles of VCSEL emissions were observed while the polarization and intensity distribution of the feedback light were varied simultaneously. The dominant fundamental mode and the cross-polarized first-order mode oscillated in the absence of the optical feedback. Feedback light reduced the mode of orthogonal polarization and enhanced the mode of parallel polarization. The original fundamental mode was reduced and a new fundamental mode of the other polarization emerged under an optical feedback with 90-degree polarization rotation. It was also observed that the new fundamental mode oscillated at the feedback-light position. |
