False Positive Reduction Process Based on Anatomical Information for Computer-aided Detection System of FDG-PET and CT Images

(in English) This paper reports a novel reduction method of false positives extracted by the previously developed CAD system for PET and CT images by understanding normal structure in the PET images. The system consists of four steps; registration of PET and CT images, segmentation of organs from both images, detection of candidate regions from PET images, and discrimination of the candidates. The proposed method eliminates the false positives corresponding to kidney and spine in the last discrimination step by precisely identifying their regions in the PET image. This paper shows the result of applying this method to the images from 11 patients and the discussion about its effectiveness.
