Recently, multi-band operation in mobile phones tends to become popular especially for quad-band or penta-band operation. For the quad-band antenna design, the targeted bands are the GSM band (880 - 960 MHz) and the DCS/PCS/UMTS band (1710 - 2170 MHz). To meet the above-mentioned requirement, a low-profile monopole antenna is a promising antenna design. In this paper, printed monopole antennas with a very low profile and very small in size as compared to others, etched on a flexible-printed-circuit (FPC) film and protruded from the top edge of the ground plane, are proposed aimed at multiband operation in the mobile phone. The proposed antennas have been fabricated and results match well with the numerical simulations. |
