Recently, VPN technology is used to improve secure capability in Internet remote access and end users. In enterprise networks, however, firewalls are sometimes placed at each section for access control. Therefore, the use of a proxy server is attractive to avoid access filtering at firewalls. Although a Firewall Traversal function is playing an important role, existing implementation technique lacks scalability because the Firewall Traversal server has to handle a large amount of TCP/SSL protocol processing to establish secure channel. In this paper, we propose a new Firewall Traversal implementation technique by introducing and effecting TCP splicing technique;
(?) firewall traversal using TCP splicing
(?) session reuse for reducing TCP 3-way handshake and SSL handshake.
We have developed a prototype system for scalability evaluations, confirmed show that session establishment rate is 30 times as fast as the existing approach. |
