Polarimetric calibraiton of PALSAR and estimation of Faraday rotation

(in English) The Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS, “Daichi”) was launched by H-II A launch vehicle on January 24, 2006. ALOS has the phased array type L-band synthetic aperture radar (PALSAR), which has a fully polarimetric observation function, on board. PLSAR is the first spaceborne polarimetric SAR and is expected to be used for various applications such as the disaster monitoring in the world. In this report, we deal with the polarimetric calibration of PALSAR. Moreover, the radar wave emitted from a spaceborne SAR is affected by Faraday rotation when traveling through the ionosphere, and its polarization plane is rotated. Then, we examine the influence of Faraday rotation in PALSAR data and show the estimation results.
