Comparison between microwave and light wave measurements for liquid crystal loaded CPW-FE phase shifter.

(in English) We reported on liquid crystal (L.C.) loaded phase shifter with CPW-FE to achieve high speed response. In this paper, L.C. loaded phase shifter with CPW-FE of the straight line structure was made, and the microwave measurements were made with changing structure parameters, and the optimization of structure parameters related with the response time characteristic and the phase characteristic was examined. In addition an optical cell of the CPW-FE structure produced with the ITO glass was measured by the animation with using the polarized microscope. The transmitted light effected by the motion of L.C. molecules by changing the applied bias voltage to the L.C. layer was measured, and compared each frame of the animation. The experimental results by two different measuring methods were compared, and the same tendency was confirmed. As a result, quantitative explanations and the physical meaning of the microwave measurement results were enabled to be cleared.
