A Method for solving Asymmetric Traveling Salesman Problems using Block Shift Operations and Point Classification by Self-organizing Maps

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this report, an improved method for solving Asymmetric Travelling Salesman Problems (ATSP) is proposed. Where the asymmetric TSP means that the costs for travel between a city and another one are not symmetric. The proposed method is based on the previous work by the authors. The decisions of the cities to be exchanged are made by a result of the point classification based on indices of symmetry and asymmetry by a trained self-organizing map (SOM). The SOM is used for determining sets of cities to be blocked and the blocks to be exchanged. In addition, the Block Shift operation uses the information obtained by the SOM. The improved method can obtain the solutions of almost the same accuracy as that of the previous method with shorter computational time than that of the previous one.
