Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Ultrasonic welding systems with a complex transverse vibration welding tip are effective for multi-spot welding of various specimens but some vibration component normal to welding surface exists inevitably when the welding tip vibrates transversally. The normal vibration must be decreased or avoided for large welding area and especially for flip-tip welding of semiconductor tips or IC tips which have large number of bumps for direct welding on a substrate.Longitudinal to transverse vibration converters using different velocity metal ring pair with slanted thickness are proposed. The different velocity metal rings whose thickness is cut slantly along the diameter and combined to a flat surface cylindrical ring which may be inserted in any place between a longitudinal vibration system as shown in the figure. When the longitudinal vibration system is driven, transverse vibration is produced by normal driving force to longitudinal vibration due to vibration velocity difference along the diameter of the rings. Using a metal-ring-pair complex vibration, a 150 kHz complex vibration system with the converter (brass and stainless steel, diameter 13 mm) installed at longitudinal loop position is developed. Elliptical vibration locus is obtained at the free end of the rod in the case where longitudinal and transverse resonance frequencies are very near and the phase difference is about 90 degrees. Transverse vibration normal to driving direction is very small. And also, ultrasonic motor and rotating complex vibration machining tool are obtained using two metal-ring-pairs installed in a right angle between a longitudinal vibration system.
