JPEG 2000 Codec LSI for Low Delay Image Transmission System

(in English) This paper describes a JPEG 2000 codec LSI used low delay and high resolution image transmission system. In EBCOT processing in a JPEG 2000 algorithm is based on a bit-plane and a pass parallel architecture. These methods are support not only the vertically causal mode but also the regular mode to enhance image quality. Speculative decoding is used to increase the throughput. This codec was implemented with 0.18μm process. The estimated frequency is 160MHz. The codec achieves 158MS/s throughput. Image transmission system oriented to PC desktop with this codec can transmit SXGA, 60fps, YCbCr4:2:2 image with 8ms delay.
