A Study on the Transmitting Characteristics of Electro-Magnetic Wave Passing through the Inerstice between Two Metal Plates-Part 1 -- A Study Based on the Wave Guide Model --

(in English) The attenuation characteristics of electro-magnetic wave transmitting through the part where two metal plates lap, are discussed in this study. The attenuation of electro-magnetic transmitting through the interstice between the two metal plates is measured. Assuming that the shape of interstice is a (rectangular) wave guide, the attenuation of electro-magnetic wave transmitting through the wave guide is theoretically calculated. Based on the comparison between the theoretical and experimental results, the measured characteristics of electro-magnetic wave transmitting thorough interstice between two metal plates show qualitative agreement with the theoretical characteristics of the TE10 wave transmitting through the wave guide. That is, the shorter the distance between the conducting portions and the longer the length of conducting portions in the transmitting direction of electro-magnetic wave, the more significant attenuation is attained.
