Development of Optical Fiber Ribbon for High-Density Optical Interconnection

(in English) A new multi-mode optical fiber (MMF) ribbon for optical interconnection is presented. The core index delta and the cladding diameter of the MMF are designed to be 2.0 % and 80 $\mu$m, respectively. Under small bending conditions, the enhanced index delta achieves a low bending loss, and the reduced cladding diameter realizes mechanical reliability. The sheath diameter of the MMF is 125 $\mu$m and the resulting fiber-to-fiber pitch of the ribbon is 250 $\mu$m, which is the same pitch with a conventional fiber ribbon. This structure realizes compatibility with optical connectors since an optical connector designed for the standard fiber ribbon is available for connection between the newly developed MMF ribbons.
