We investigated a high-extinction ratio optical intensity modulation scheme using a LiNbO3 optical FSK
modulator which has a two sub Mach-Zehnder (MZ) structures in a main MZ structures. The sub MZ structures
are used for compensation of intensity unbalance in the main MZ structure. The unbalance due to fabrication error
causes degradation of the extinction ratio of the modulator. By using the compensation technique, the extinction
ratio can be higher than 70 dB. |
