Simulation of extracellular multiple neuronal activities by three dimensional tissue model and application to extracellular multi-channel electrodes evaluation

(in English) In order to obtain good signal-to-noise ratio recording of neuronal activities in the brain, adjustments of parameters of neural electrode such as the shape of electrode, number of recording channel and arrangement of recording points are essential. However these parameters have been empirically decided so far because of the high cost to test the electrode by using experiment animals. In this study, we develop a simulation system, which is composed of three-dimensional model neural tissue of the hippocampal CA3 region and the model of extracellular action potential recording system. By combining experimental data and simulation results, we characterize the extracellular electrodes. This system would be useful for the design and test of the neural electrode.
