Laser action and lasing wavelength modulation in cholesteric liquid crystal on finger print texture

(in English) Fingerprint texture was formed in dye-doped cholesteric liquid crystals with applying an electric field. A laser action was observed in the texture at the edge of a stop band with an irradiation of a pump light. The helical pitch of the cholesteric liquid crystals was modulated with the electric field and the lasing wavelength was shifted continuously. Moreover, the lasing threshold lowered by adding dielectric multilayers to the cholesteric liquid crystals instead of glass substrates because the light was confined two-dimensionally.
