Cell Residence Time Estimation Method using Geographical Information

(in English) In cellular networks, an user moves from one cell to another.So, it is desirable to investigate the characteristic of the user mobility in order to consider the impact of the user mobility to the performance evaluation of network systems. Cell residence time, which is the duration time that a user exists in one cell, is considered as one of the parameter representing the user mobility for cellular networks. In this paper, we propose an estimation method of cell residence time for each cell using geographical information. At first, our method calculates the route distance on the cell from cell placement and geographical information. After that, the cell residence time distribution is estimated from calculated route distances and user speed obtained from geographical information. Also, we show that there are few cases which the distribution of cell residence time follows the gamma distribution from the analysis of route distances.
