High Power and Long Pulse Operation of 170GHz Gyrotron for ITER

(in English) In Japan Atomics Energy Agency, the development of high power, high efficiency and long pulse gyrotron has been performed. In the last year, the improvement of the internal radiator and mirrors, the modification of the shape of the electron gun and the development of a preprogrammed control system of the cathode heater was performed. As a result, the power of 0.6MW with total efficiency of 46\% operation was continued 3600 sec. In addition to the improvements, the operation at the ``hard-excitation'' region, which is difficult to start the oscillation contrary to the possible high efficiency operation, is realized by controlling the cahode-anode voltage and magnetic field at the cavity during the pulse. With the operation in the hard-excitation region, the 1MW, 55% and 800sec. pulse was achieved. It exceeds the requirement of the ITER which is 1MW, 50%, 500sec.
