The concept of the server based digital broadcasting system is to achieve broadcast program viewing at anytime and anywhere by using large-scale storage system and metadata. The storage may locate at home as a home-server or within a network as a network-server. If a user selects a particular content by using metadata in electronic program guide (EPG), then the location of the content (that may be within a home-server or a network-server) is resolved, and the content is delivered from there to the user. Various user-needs such as highlight-viewing or digest-viewing are also possible by using metadata. However, as the capacity of home-server is limited, if a user cannot find a particular content within his/her home-server, the content is delivered from the network-server. If accesses to a specific content within a network-server concentrate, the server and relevant network resources would be congested.
This paper proposes a new system that combines a flooding-based P2P system with a server-based broadcasting system to reduce congestion thus achieves comfortable viewing. Furthermore, the proposed system uses content referencing identifier (CRID) and instance metadata identifier (IMI) as the P2P retrieve key, thus allows people to discover content without knowing a specific file name of content. The feasibility of proposed new system is validated through a prototype system simulation. |
