This report assesses application--level QoS of audio--video transmission with the Block ACK, which is an optional function of the IEEE 802.11e EDCA, in the presense of transmission error by simulation. We consider audio--video and data traffic in the uplink (stations--to--access point) direction and examine how the maximum number of frames in a block affects application-level QoS for various values of the distance between stations and the AP. We also investigate the effect of the Block ACK on the video quality, varing the video coding rate and TXOPlimit. Simulation results show that the optimum value of the maximum number of frames in a block becomes larger as the distance or the video coding rate increases. Numerical results also reveal that TXOPlimit as well as the maximum number of frames in a block should be selected properly to achieve high video quality. |
