Design of grating couplers based on dual-core fibres

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We demonstrate a Bragg-reflection grating coupler using a dual-core fibre with long-period (LPG) and short-period grating (FBG) pair. The LPG couples light from the primary core to the cladding while the FBG operates in reflection and acts to drop the channel from the secondary core. In contrast to conventional FBG-based devices, the proposed coupler is non-reflective along the launching core. Achievement of high reflectivity and means of suppressing side lobes are highlighted. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the possibility of obtaining an effective flat-top Bragg-reflection bandpass filter with steep band transitions and negligible side lobes. The results are useful for the design of grating-based devices with applications in wavelength-division-multiplexed systems.
