Orbital Geometry of Localization System around Small Planetary Bodies
Tetsuo Yoshimitsu, Ichiro Nakatani, Sayaka Higo (ISAS/JAXA) SANE2007-9
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Small planetary bodies in our solar system have obtained a lot of attention in recent years. For future small body missions, surface exploration by robots is one of the promising methods to known much about the target body. In order to observe the specified interesting features on the surface, the position of the robot on the surface has to be identified. The authors proposed a new localization method. The proposed method uses the radio assistance from the mother spacecraft which has delivered the robot to the surface and stays in the vicinity of the small body. In this paper, simulation analyses are described with different orbits of the mother spacecraft.
