Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Nowadays, the importance of communication between human and computers has increased, and the development of an appropriate communication tool (input device) to bridge the two is highly expected. However, during the operation of most input devices, users are requested to look at the device and the computer screen at the same time and, that can be quite a burden to eyes. Moreover, although GUI (Graphical User Interface) supports the communication, currently used devices such as pointing device, cursor key, etc, are extensively dependent on vision. This research evaluates user performance in speed and control during direction selection tasks by five widely used input devices under visual limitation. The evaluation result would contribute to the development of new input devices which reduce the burden of the eyes during communication.
