We propose a novel visualization technique for mobile robot control which integrates 2D images and 3D range data acquired by an omnidirectional camera and an omnidirectional laser range sensor. Using these data, perspective and panorama views, and a 3D miniature model are presented to the operator on a hemispherical dome display. To evaluate the advantages of the operation and the effectiveness for searching of proposed visualization methods over existing visualization methods, several user studies were conducted in a simulation and in the real world. Subjective results of these studies show that the omnidirectional image visualization using panorama view had no advantage over the existing method, on the other hand, 3D miniature map visualization had advantage over the existing method. |
