Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We studied the brain activity during recognition of contour changes in a melody by MEG. Two parent phrases having 8 ascending tones were made and three derivative phrases were constructed from each of the two. Subjects were instructed to judge whether a parent and one of its derivatives had the “identical’ contour when they were presented sequentially. MEG measurement was done during the recognition task and the response to the substituted tone in the derivative was compared between the types of contour changes which we defined in this report. Larger responses were observed for ‘non-monotonous’ changes than ‘monotonous’ changes.
