All-optical modulation format conversion is expected to remove costly and power-wasteful O/E/O converters in the gateway nodes, which connect inhomogeneous networks with using different modulation formats. In this paper, we propose a novel all-optical modulation format conversion from NRZ-OOK to RZ-QPSK using parallel SOA-MZI based OOK/BPSK converter. The performance of the proposed converter is numerically investigated and operation of format conversion at a bit-rate of 10.7~Gsymbol/s is experimentally demonstrated. |
