Automatic Identification of Perceptually Salient Objects in an Image
Masaya Kato, Junji Maeda (Muroran IT)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In the early process of the human vision, it is known that people pay preferential attention to salient objects that have strong brightness, specifical colors and strong contrast. Many researches have been made to achieve this process on a computer.
We propose the improved method to automatically identify perceptually salient objects more accurately based on the Itti's bottom-up method.
The proposed method also enables to detect the attended areas including salient objects as well as attended locations. We create the feature maps by using Gaussian pyramid of extracted features from an image, and obtain the saliency map by combining different feature maps.
Then the attended locations and the attended areas are identified form the saliency map.
