Pulse width modulation (PWM) is used to drive fan units in order to control them precisely. It creates a need to maintain the technology suppressing radiated emissions. Recent study reported that the radiation phenomena could be explained to model the fan and drive unit by metallic planes and rods in frequency range of more than 100MHz. However, the appropriate model estimating the emission level has not been developed less than 100MHz. In this report, we investigate the model estimating the emissions less than 100MHz. The radiation source position was estimated from the radiated electric field distribution at distance of 3m. The result shown that the dominant radiation source placed at the AC-mains cable. Therefore, AC-mains cable was added the previous model and the radiated field were calculated when the radiation source was the common-mode current at the cable between the fan init and the drive unit. The calculation results almost agreed with the measured one. This means that the model can be used to estimate the radiation level. The suppression effect, when the ground between the fan and drive unit was improved, was investigated by the measurement and the calculation based on the model. The results shown that the improvement of ground condition is effective to suppress the radiated emission. |
