Clarifying the characteristics of snow adhering to a cable

(in English) Recently, the broadband service, especially FTTH (Fiber To The Home) service use is increasing rapidly in the background of the spread of the Internet etc. Therefore, a large amount of aerial optical cable is constructed, and the load to an aerial structure such as telegraph poles shows a tendency to increase. It is considered that a load of aerial structure is increased by snow's adhering to aerial cable in snowfall area, but there are a lot of uncertain points of the mechanism about the characteristic of snow adhering to a cable. We experimented by using Cryospheric Environment Simulator of National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention. It is an experiment about the influence that the water content gives to the characteristic of snow adhering to a cable. It reports on the experiment result.
