Estimation using psychometric logistic functions for discriminating and sequentializing temporally separate perceptual events in auditory perception of ultrasonic bone conduction
Shuhei Komatsu, Kenji Furihata (Shinshu Univ.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Bone-conducted vibrations up to 50 kHz (150 kHz or more in the young) can be heard by most people, including some subjects normally regarded as totally deaf at ordinary frequencies both to air-borne and to bone-conducted sound[1]. Therefore, echolocation is also possible by direct listening to the reflected ultrasonic echoes (∆t) in the high audio range, after brain ultrasonic demodulation which, owing to its frequency separation, will not interfere with speech communication. Most interesting is the result for the regime 3 ms < ∆t < 30 ms. Here, two individual different events can be discriminated, but their temporal sequence cannot be assigned correctly: a so-called auditory order threshold (AOT)[2].
In this paper, age and heart beating effects on AOTs have been discovered.
