| (in English) | This paper presents a novel network measurement method --- NetDelta --- to establish DEtailed, Long-Term Analysis of a massive amount of traffic data. NetDelta analyzes detailed traffic summaries such as volume and cardinality for each key element of interest, e.g., source IP address, destination IP address, and destination port number. The key idea is to apply bitmap-based counting techniques to measure and store the cardinality statistics. Traffic summaries are stored in small binary strings, that conserves the memory resources and disk consumption; therefore, long-term analysis of traffic data can be established. Another unique and valuable feature of NetDelta is that it can change the granularity of traffic summaries and keys, e.g., to a longer time-scale and larger network address space. In general, we do not know which scale is relevant to the analysis in advance. Accordingly, being able to change the scale of the stored traffic summaries and keys to identify the relevant scale is crucial. NetDelta is able to meet such a demand. We evaluate the method through the traffic data measured at a high-speed backbone link. |
