AERODYNAMIC STABILIZATION OF A FLEXIBLE OPTICAL DISK WITH AN ASYMMETRICALLY STABILIZER

(in English) We have been studying a flexible optical disk system. One of the features of the system is its extremely small axial runout achieved with an dynamic effect of the stabilizer. This axial runout is useful for high-density recording with a high numerical-aperture (NA) pickup. We improved the stabilizer design. The previous system was made up of triangularly arranged stabilizers (TASs), which consist of one main stabilizer (MS) that stabilizes the pickup focus area on the disk, and two auxiliary stabilizers (ASs) that curve the disk and control the balancing force around the MS. The new design has an asymmetrical arrangement of MS against Ass; that is, the new system was made up of asymmetrically and triangularly arranged stabilizers (ATASs). Essentially, the important factor of the arrangement is a tangential shift of the MS working position from the ridgeline on a flexible disk, which is created with ASs working.
