To achieve high quality streaming media and high utilization of the network bandwidth, smoothing of bursty traffic is important.
We have proposed a packet scheduling method, which precisely controls an inter-packet gap through the transmission of gap packet between adjacent packets.
We have also developed a software called PSPacer which realizes traffic pacing by using the proposed method.
In this paper, we evaluate effects of pacing on the delivery of streaming media.
The result shows that PSPacer improves the packet loss rate from 74.7% to 6.51% during the delivery of 320 streams in which case the bottleneck router's buffer size is set to 64KB. |
