In recent years, the use of multichannel audio contents is widely spreading. Consequently, the transmission quantity is increasing, and compression technology to reduce it is requested. A compression method exploiting the sparsness of sound source signals has a problem that it distorts the signals. It is because that there is no sparsness in the mixed signals consisting of two or more sound source signals. Therefore, we propose the method for audio signal compression using independent component analysis (ICA); ICA separates mixed signals into source signals, and clarifies sparsness among signals. Furthermore, we propose a mechanism to detect time-frequency grids where sparsness is not satisfied, and for the detected grids, we transmit multichannel signals to prevent the degradation. Experimental result shows that the proposed method can compress mixed audio signals with higher quality than conventional method. |
