Recently, TV conferencing systems based on peer-to-peer (P2P) networking technology have been widely deployed. However, most of them can only support a dozen of users. In this paper, we propose a novel method to construct and manage a P2P network for a scalable TV conferencing system. Our method consists of a network construction mechanism, a tree reconstruction mechanism, and a failure recovery mechanism. The tree reconstruction mechanism takes into account the heterogeneity of the available bandwidth to nodes and the length of a speech so that nodes capable of having many child nodes and nodes actively speaking are located near the root of a tree. Through simulation experiments, we verified that our tree reconstruction mechanism could effectively reduce the delay among participants and speakers for smooth TV conferencing. |
