This paper is devoted to the illustration of the basic philosophy and the effectiveness of the iISS-ISS small-gain theorem which has been developed by the author recently. The iISS-ISS small-gain theorem is a theoretical tool for establishing stability of nonlinear interconnected systems. By presenting a primitive example whose stability properties can be easily estimated intuitively, this paper explains how the traditional stability tools fail and how efficiently the iISS-ISS small-gain theorem answers the question of stability successfully. It is also demonstrated that the iISS-ISS small-gain theorem is a special case of the framework of state-dependent scaling problems. |
