Optical Kerr Nonlinearity in Silicon Photonic Crystal Waveguides -- Four-wave mixing process --

(in English) Optical Kerr nonlinearity in two-dimensional silicon photonic crystal (Si-PhC) waveguides is studied by using the efficiency of four-wave mixing (FWM) arising from non-resonant nonlinear susceptibilities in telecom wavelength bands centered at 1550 nm. The wavelength conversion efficiency is dominated by the combination of group velocity dispersion (GVD) and propagation loss in a triangular lattice single line-defect Si-PhC waveguide. However, under phase-matching conditions achieving less detuning between pump beams, enhancement of FWM conversion efficiency is observed near the bandgap edge, which is the most dispersive region without a high propagation loss. From an analysis of the photonic bandgap structure, the actual nonlinear interaction length will be enlarged by alternating the group index near the bandgap edge.
