A study of the concatenated coding using the regular LDPC code and the Reed-Solomon (204,188) code

(in English) In the broadcasting field, there is an increasing demand for wider bandwidth of the transmission channel to transmit the next generation broadcasting media such as Super Hi-Vision, three-dimensional HDTV, and uncompressed HDTV program materials by the wireless camera. In this paper, we introduce concatenated coding using the regular LDPC code and the Reed-Solomon (204,188) code as the FEC coding scheme for the wideband transmission signal and indicate the characteristics of its performance. This coding scheme has a high coding gain in comparison with the concatenated coding using the Convolutional code and the Reed-Solomon (204,188) code adopted by the ISDB-S standard and it can make the calculation amount in decoding to 55% or less in comparison with the concatenated coding using the irregular LDPC code and the BCH code adopted by the DVB-S2 standard, and result in reducing the circuit integration degree for hardware implementation of FEC coding.
