| (in English) | Hearing of a natural disaster like a terribly strong earthquake or severely wild typhoon, people use their cellular phones to inquire after their close relative’s and friend’s safety. Cellular phone traffic may then exceed the system capacity to deteriorate the network performance. To handle more cellular phone users in such a disaster, Okada has previously proposed a traffic control scheme by liming the individual call holding time during a traffic congestion period. We present a stochastic model for this traffic control scheme, a multiple-server loss system with limited service time mechanism, assuming a Poisson process without (and with) retrials as cellular calls arrivals. We analyze the stochastic model to derive the steady-state distribution of the number of customers in the system, exactly for the Poisson input case and approximately for the retrial input case. In the latter case the approximation accuracy is validated by a simulation result. | |
